Internet Radio as Hold Music

Does anyone out there know if it is possible to use an internet radio station as hold music via the Voicemail Pro Server? Will it affect the IP Office unit's performance? I am running an IP Office 403, with Voicemail Pro 1.4.

Use a slow pc just to broadcast the radio and put the soundcard ouput into the ip office audio in in the back of the unit...you will be able to adjust the volume using the media player or so...

It sounds like great idea. We did something similar to that but I don't see why it will degrade the performance. Our box is P200 and it is running just fine. I don't believe it is processor or memory intensive. just keep the player in compact mode as the fancy picture show will greatly degrade the performance. Some of those apperances require 3D video accelerator with a lot of RAM.

The only issue I have run into doing this is internet slowdowns may cause your MOH to sound funny on occasion, other than that I have done this before with no probs.

Don't you need a public broadcast licence to do this?

Depends on your jurisdiction, I believe. In Canada that is technically true, but I have never ever heard of it being enforced - radio stations here run contests where if they call your workplace and hear themselves on your MOH you win big prizes.

I have heard in the US that it can be a prob, but not sure on that. Can't even begin to comment on the situtation across the pond.

One very cheap and sensible way for useful MOH is to use an MP3 player as a sound source. It makes teh editing easy, and if the MP3 player is firmware only, i.e., no disk. It should be like the Energizer Bunny.

We've been doing that for a while now. We use I-Tunes rather than WVM just because I'm a Mac guy also. But the I-tunes lets you set the buffer size. We set it as high as possible so even if the internet gets slow or drops, it'll run for up to 1 minute w/o an issue.
