Internet Mail and Domino Public Address Book problem

Hi,

I recently installed Domino R5 server (version 5.0.8). I also installed Notes R5 (version 5.0.8). I also went in and created all the users for my company.

I setup the client on my system, without selecting to install an Internet Email account. Everything was fine. I was able to see the Domino Public Address book, etc, etc.

Since I intend on using Notes to check my Internet email account, I needed to set that up. I couldn't find an easy way to do it so I uninstalled / reinstalled Notes. (I'm sure there is an easier way, and if someone wants to let me know that's great, but I've got a larger problem).

I get into Notes and to test everything out, I try to schedule a meeting with another employee. That's when I find out I cannot access the "Domino Public Address Book" with all of the other users in it.

I've search this forum and found nothing like this. Has anyone seen this? Can anyone give me an idea how to fix this? I'm new to Notes / Domino so please be detailed.

Thanks.

you reinstalled notes... did you use the same id files ? or did you create a new domain with the same name ?

Hi - I used the same ID file.

I didn't reinstall Domino, only the Notes client, so the server name did not change.

check the acl on the server :
open the domino address book and make sure you have manager rights on the file names.nsf
then try again I have not failed, I just found 10000 ways that don't work

Hi - When I installed the server I did not setup an ACL.

I changed some settings on names.nsf (basically allowing everyone access), but I still cannot see it from my notes client. (Atleast I'm pretty sure that's what I did).

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

Hi,

Following your steps, the address book opens into it's own tab within Notes. Everyone is listed and it works fine.

Yet, when I go to schedule a meeting or write an email, I still cannot access the address book.

I guess I could just copy all of the users to my Personal Address Book, but then anytime we add or delete users, I would need to manually re-sync the whole company.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

have you tried it from several mailboxes/clients ?

also make sure that in the server's notes.ini, the entry NAMES=.... contains names.nsf, and names.nsf should be the first entry in that list

NAMES=names.nsf

Can you mail me your notes.ini file please ?
(from your client)
+ screenshots of your location profile

Thanks

Peter - I emailed you the ini file and which screen shots do you need?

Thanks.
