Internet explorer will not browes pages

When conected to the internet I can ping other web sites, however internet explorer will not browes sites.

1. Sweep for spyware/adware using SpyBot:

2. You don't specify what version of IE you're running, but make sure you have all updates.

3. Run through this fix from Microsoft:

Scroll down to the section called Check the Winsock.dll, Wsock32.dll, and Wsock.vxd Files

Sounds like perhaps a simple DNS issue. If you put the web sites IP address in the IE address bar does it give you the web pages then? If so, your DNS servers ( or the ISP's DNS servers) are not doing thier job.
