Internet Explorer Shut down!

HI,

I receive a message approximately every 20 seconds that states "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I can't get rid of this annoying pop up and it prevents me from opening internet explorer. What can I do to correct this problem without re-imaging my system?
