Help !!
I use WindowsMe, with IE 6, and when I click to view the My Pictures folder in My Documents, I get this

Internet Explorer Scrip Error

An error has occured in the scrip on this page.

Line 282
Char 17
Error Unspecified Error
Code : 0
URL : file://C:\WINDOWS\Web\ImgView.htt

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page

YES/NO

I haven't run IE repair yet, as I would like to know the cause. Is it a virus?

thanks in advance
kwunder

kwunder, You do have your problems :)

Nope, just go to Start>Run, and type:
regsvr32.exe webvw.dll

Then shutdown and restart. The .htt files are "inside" this DLL and running regsvr32.exe extracts them.

reghakr, Too true. Problems by the barrowload.

I ran regsvr32.exe webvw.dll, but the problem persists. I have also uncovered a couple of other probs including an

An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\TIMEDATE.CPL

when I try to access the time/adjust screen.

Don't know if these problems are related, or if it's a virus ?

thanks reghakr

I have been a bit too lazy regarding virus's in the past, but have today purchased McAfee VirusScan Deluxe so as to put my mind at rest.

I'll try that link and post my findings.
Thanks

The link gave a "Did not find any matches" result

kwunder,

I swear that link worked in the past.

Try this one:

To prevent those script error messages (if it's because of bad coding on web pages), open Internet Explorer, go to Tools>InternetOptions, click the Advanced tab and check "Disable Script Debugging"

Also go to Start>Run, and type msconfig, click the statup tab and uncheck the Machine Debug Manager entry.

Give me a page address to check it out.

reghakr

regahkr,

I tried the link but really the only suggestion was to re-install to refresh the .htt files.

Disable script Debugging is already checked & when i ran msconfig, I got a message that I've never seen before.

"Environment variables were found in the legacy files AUTOEXEC.BAT &/or CONFIG.SYS and the variables were moved to the Windows Registry.
I clicked OK, then msconfig started, but couldn't find a MACHINE DEBUG MANAGER entry.

?

Tell you what, hit the search button on IE's toolbar and type this into the box:

Internet Explorer Script Error

Run through all the different engines.

The message is produced, I believe, because it's the first time you've run msconfig on your ME machine.

reghakr

Sorry... I've run msconfig dozens of times.

It's not actually happening while I'm surfing. It happens when I open the "MY PICTURES" folder located in MY DOCUMENTS

I did the search thing and it produced over 4000 items. I waded through a few but to no avail. I think a re-install is the order of the day. Agree?

kwunder,

Does C:\WINDOWS\Web\ImgView.htt exist?

Is it 17.8KB?

Does the My Pictures folder have a "special" icon?
Is it's attributes set to Read-Only?

Is My Pictures one of the entries under this key:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

and is it's value set to C:\My Documents\My Pictures?

Try right-clicking on the taskbar, choose properties, click the Advanced tab and check or uncheck "Expand My Pictures" to see if there is any difference. You may need to shutdown and restart.

reghakr

reghakr.

Glad to be back.

I tried to run msconfig once more yesterday, and the system froze. I tried ctrl/alt/del and it didn't restart, so I shut down & tried to restart. It wouldn't fire up in five attempts so I formatted & re-installed, & obviously, the problem has gone.

p.s.
C:\WINDOWS\Web\ImgView.htt did exist, can't remember size,
and My Pictures had the normal icon that is standard for that folder in WinMe, which was a folder with a small photo image on it.

Thanks for all you help

kwunder

Thanks Rob. I've made a note in case it happens again.

kwunder

thanx for the help, i had the same problem and your last suggestion fixed it - it was a problem with tweakUI.

regards
Matt
