I'm on Netscape 7 right now, but WAS on IE5[or whatever]... I switched because IE was lagging horribly - REALLY horribly....

I've tried reinstalling IE several times [not version 6 because I've heard it's bad for WinME and more for XP...] but it doesn't work....
The latest download of IE [after a total uninstall/removal, including registry entries...] doesn't load any webpages, at all - it just comes up as a white screen, while the page loads nothing forever....

Any ideas? I'm not entirely fond of Netscape so I'd like to switch back, but I can't get it to:
A - work and load webpages [maybe I need to set it as the default browser? hmm]

and

B - stop the horrible lag when loading pages [WHEN it works]
The lag is so bad on some forms, like this one that I could have the entire thing typed up be4 I actually see the text, so it's bad

any help would be totally appreciated, thanks people

pardon my rambling..hehe

Where are you downloading IE from? Have you tried uninstalling IE, then put the Windows ME CD in and run to reinstall that. That will install the original IE 5.5 from the disk, but it will not affect any of your other programs or files.

Once installed, be sure the Security Settings are on the default level, and on the Programs Tab, be sure that the box on IE being the Default Browser is checked.

If that doesn't do it, try disabling any firewall to see if that makes a difference. Also, be sure and clear the Temporary Files

Yeah, usually reloading the browser either solves it, or it means you're going to rerun the setup. I'd backup your data first, just to be safe.

Yep! I am familar with this problem myself. I have tried everything to fix the problem, nothing has worked. Now using Mozilla due to this fact.

You should also try to clear any SPYWARE programs running. Some of them can cause all kinds of grief with browsers. Look for NEWDOTNET, DW, GATOR, GAIN in the task list. You might also get SPYSWEEPER. It finds all the spyware programs running in memory and on your hard drive.
