Internet Explorer Problem

I just had a problem with my computer.

Windows wasn't starting and I was getting a blue screen that said UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

I ran chkdsk like Microsoft recomends and it fixed the problem. The computer now comes on and works fine with 1 exception.

Internet explorer will not start.

I double click the icon and it flashes really quick and then closes. It's kind of like IE runs for about 1/2 second and then crashes. No messages or popup boxes or anything like that.

Connectivity to the web is perfectly fine.
I am able to FTP to external web sites via the DOS prompt

How can I solve this dilema?

Thanks

Carl

It might be possible to narrow down the possibilities by checking for information in Event Viewer. But, in the meantime, it certainly won't hurt to run the System File Checker. Open a command prompt & type [!]sfc /scannow[/!]

Check to see if you have yahoo toolbar if so uninstall it. Then check IE see if it will start. If it does then you can download yahoo toolbar again. One of the security patches on windows updates conflicted with yahoo toolbar and IE would close as soon as it opened.
