Might sound like a crazy question but will Internet Explorer run on a Linux Desktop. I'm thinking of converting this PC which is used mainly for web design to Linux but not sure. What about Photoshop or is there an open source equivalent?

Thanks fro any suggestions.
cheers

I don't know about IE, but a photoshop alternative would be GIMP. I have just started using it, it seems to have most of the basic functionality of photoshop. You can get it from Sourceforge.

Didn't Microsoft ever release IE for Unix? I found this while hunting around today on MSDN:

Microsoft said:
The download behavior is available as of Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5, in the Microsoft Win32® and Unix platforms.

The article in question can be found here:
I couldn't find any reference in the IE download page to a Unix version... So wonder why there is a behaviour listed for it?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Dan

Thanks, all sounds promising. Had a look at Wine, I think I'll just get a machine going ( I have a RedHat 7.2 Disk handy with KDE or Gnome and try and make the stuff fit. I want to use the machine for basic webdesign and also PHP and MySQL. Be great if I could make the change from my Windows fixation.

cheers
