I have just gone on to broadband, ISP PIPEX. I am therefore using Internet Explorer 6 SP1 for the first time to browse, Ex AOL). I have XP Pro installed. Alacatel Speedtouch modem.

What is happening is sporadic but VERY frequent. Is is not always the same website either.

I can connect through Outlook and the mail works.

When I start to browse with IE the user id/password for my site comes up OK. I get to the first web page OK. sometines it hangs with the (not responding) error, locking up my system until I close down IE with Task Manager. Other time it lets me in to the next page.

Even going to AOL Remote to get my mail results in a hang at times.

This is becoming VERY frustrating. Having broadband at last but having to close down IE every couple of minutes!

Any suggestions out there? I have ininstaleld and reinstalled IW6 through XP Pro...no change. I have all the latest patches and S/PAcks!

Cheers

Chris

I do suspect an Explorer plug-in of some kind, because I solved the problem in the following way: Uninstalled IE via Add/Remove programs and deleted all files and folders in Program Files/Internet Explorer that I was allowed to remove. I noticed that Windows XP automatically restored Iexplore.exe and one other file whenever I removed them. Then, when I started Iexplore.exe, everything worked fine (and fast) even though I had not reinstalled IE. I still cannot believe it... [thumbsup]

"Uninstalling" IE doesn't really ininstall it. It probably does all add-ons and configutarions but IE is built in to the OS now. Remember the original reason of the lawsuit? So, I think, when you uninstalled it some junk was removed which was giving you your problem.
