Hello...
We have around 10 machines here in the library. I would like to set these workstations tighly lockdown. I have users come in and changed everything even the home default page and also change the search engine not even yet, they went to porn site and now porn words running on the link bar. What is the best way i can stop this? I am using the poledit in the windows 2000. We don't use Active Directory to control this. I pretty much lock everything that i wanted such as icons, retrick of changing display, but one thing is they still can crew around with the internet explorer. How can stop them, i can't find a way to stop in the poledit. How i can also stop a user to change the home page. I know there is a way to do it. Could you feed me this one.
MUCH MUCH thanks...

Policy:

See policies for Internet options in the
\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer
and in \Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel folders.

You can use poledit and WinNT style policies to lockdown Internet explorer, and in fact I do so at our site. We use policies on our Novell network, saved to a shared directory.

I would recommend setting a default home page in the policy.

A few templates to watch for are inetcorp.adm, inetres.adm, inetset.adm, and inetsetz5.adm.

This will not stop everything you mention, but it will put a halt to people changing settings. Hostile programs can still change things on you, however.
