I got Windows 98SE, Outlook 6 and Internet Explorer 6. When ever I try to open a link that shows in an email message the browser window loads but the area where the page should show up remains transparent. This also happens when I click on a link that tries to open the page in a new window.
Any ideas about what's wrong?

Thanks

Try repairing IE with the repair tool in System Information/Tools.
If no luck, uninstall and reinstall IE.

Fischadler,

Ya might also want to clear cache, cookies, clear history.
All can be done by:
opening IE
at the top click on tools
click internet option
on the general tab, selete cookies, delete temp files and all offline content, delete history.
also, on the general tab, under temp files, hit settings
make sure your MB for disk space is under lets say, 50.
then click on view files, if there is anything in there remove it. (delete it)
also in internet options click on the programs tan, make sure IE checks to be the default browser, if not check it off, and also click reset web settings.

hope it helps :)

If the actions listed above don't solve then try running the IE REPAIR by going to MY COMPUTER, CONTROL PANEL, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Click onto Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 & Internet Tools and you will find the repair option.

Try this. With all browser windows and outlook closed go to control panel--internet options--programs tab--click the reset web settings button then ok out. If that doesn't fix it click start--run--then type or copy and paste the following into the box and hit ok:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

If that doesn't fix it try extracting a new oleaut32.dll file into the system folder. You can do that with system file checker:

Or download it from the dll search section here:

If running the repair tool doesn't work, re-install IE 6. That should fix the problem. Watch out for the IE 6.0 updates, they sometimes create more problems than you had to start with. After my latest update, I get an error report every time I try to download anything from the internet. I must have sent 30 or 40 error reports to Microsoft already in past few weeks.

Thanks to all who answered. The problem was solved by restoring the oleaut32.dll file.

Thanks again! :)

Just before you celebrate having overcome your problem, check the date on the oleaut32.dll file. If it isn't within a couple pf months of today's date, see what else in your system is no longer working correctly, especially tasks found within OUTLOOK.

I changed that file some time ago on advice, and the first time I wanted to send a fax with an XL file, the whole thing ground to a halt.

Just a word of caution, but I'm sure Kento is quite right. Regards
