Internet Explorer execution from CMD

A guess, under IE, Tools, Internet Options, Advance, uncheck the option to 'reuse windows for new shortcuts.'

You could simplify this in your batch file by not causing a second instance of iexplorer to run. Modify your batch file to state only:

C:\Documents and Settings\Admin>'http:' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I also tried the thing with 'reuse windows for new shortcuts.'
and it doesnt work. It still opens a new IE window :(

I'm not sure there is a way to resuse the open window from the command line. Here are some known command line switches for IE faq608-3525, unfortunately, what you want doesn't seem to exist.

smah,

You are right, in a .bat or .cmd setting it does not do the association with IE if just the URL is passed. Without creating a second instance of IE I honestly do not know how to do what is being asked. My apologies.

It does work from a Script setting, although whether it creates a second instance of IE I have not tested. There is hope.

What I did was in my batch file do exactly what you did but in policy just set the home page to the desired page. So then the user logs in the batch file within the login script launches IE wich in return has the home page of your choice. I did catch with os your are running. I am using a win2000 enviroment.

Hope this helps!
