Having problems accessing some secure sites that require smart card logon. I have reinstalled ActivClient three times, uninstalled and reinstalled IE8, IE7 and still no progress. Some sites immediately prompt me for PIN others do not. Tried all of the KB articles, reset Internet Explorer, Internet Explorer no add-ons, FireFox, Chrome, Safari, all with the same results.

Looks like most of the sites I have tried require TLS I have tried toggling the advanced options with no luck.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any "recommended updates" at Windows Update that you are missing concerning Smart Card logon?

"Automatic Updates delivers only the latest important updates that can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. These updates can include security updates, critical updates and service packs and should be installed as soon as they are released. You can download and install other types of updates, such as upgrades and tools that help improve the performance of your computer, by visiting the Windows Update Web site ( on a regular basis."

I mention that because I vaguely remember seeing something about Smart Card when manually checking Windows Updates and using the Custom button rather than the Express button.

We use a Windows Update Server and I have tried all of the Microsoft Updates. This is a strange problem because we have several like workstations some work some don't no rhyme or reason for this.

Just for information, this was the update that I remembered seeing.

Description of the software update for Base Smart Card Cryptographic Service Provider

Does this mentioned note mean anything in the matter?

"Note To enable most smart card security, the user must still enroll for certificates from a trusted public key infrastructure.
