For some strange reason Internet Explorer is now starting up automatically every time I restart my system. I have looked in the Startup folder, MSCONFIG, and through the Registry. I can't figure out where it is being called from, or why it is launching at system startup. Anybody got any ideas?

Do you have Active Desktop activated? petersdaniel@hotmail.com

No, I don't have Active Desktop activated. The only change I made was installed a newer version of BearShare. I unchecked all the 3rd party software rom installing - only BearShare. I have uninstalled it, but IE stills loads up on startup...

Well, I finally solved the mystery! The Forum Moderator at another forum suggested the following freeware utility (Process Explorer) from Sysinternals Software. I downloaded it and ran it. It took me a few minutes to figure out all the information it was giving me, but I located Internet Explorer and it said that the parent was Web Washer. I then checked my Web Washer's settings, and sure enough there was a check box to start the browser. I un-checked it and rebooted - viola, no more IE automatically loading!!! This is a GREAT little tool, and highly recommended by Wugnet. Give it a try if you haven't already. It works with all operating systems.
