Anybody know what registry settings need to be modified to get this useful feature working again? I guess that third party software has disabled it since it doesn't work for for me but does for other Windows 2000(SP3) users. This is why I think that registry settings are behind the problem. I imagine that it is a user oriented rather than system oriented problem. The feature worked fine until three days ago.

Sorry Guys and Gals,

I've obviously been blackballed so I give up. I have one parting thought which is that most, if not all, problems, in my experience, are due to interactions between different software so be careful what you install. I shall sort this problem out myself like I have all the other ones. Good luck all.

Just something to check. Go to tools/internet options and click on the Programs tab. Check to see what is in your HTML Editor field. If nothing, then that may be your problem. Click the down arrow and see if at least Notepad is there and check that.

Hope this helps....skimmers [thumbsup2]

Hey, check out carr's response in thread608-449081 thread. There is a great link on how to modify anything in the registry. I'm sure you'll find something useful there if my suggestion above did not work.

Good Luck....skimmers [thumbsup2]

Thank you skimmers for taking that trouble.

View Source stopped working on two of my computers, one of my desk tops and then my laptop 3 weeks later. Tried everything I could find: MS knowlegebase, other forums, etc. I found the answer, though I do not understand why the solution works. I had 2 notepad shortcuts: one on the desktop and one in quicklaunch. I changed the shortcuts from notepad to note pad and view source now works fine. I then did the same on my laptop and now that works fine also. I should be pleased that it works! But I am puzzled as to why??? Anyone?

Good grief! It works! Thank you very much. I award you a red star.

euston, Thank you for the red star. gigahert, I read all the posts and the links but none of them give a logical explanation of why my solution works. At least my solution allows you to still use notepad shortcuts rather than delete them. Any other ideas for why this works?

I'm using w2k and IE6 and View Source stopped working as well as viewing help files in VisualStudio .NET.

I read a tip somewhere to delete all temporary internet files. I did, and now everything works again.
