Over the last 10-12 weeks, despite having BroadBand, IE6 is going incredibly slow. I click a link and it takes maybe 30 seconds for Yahoo's homepage to display all its items. I see all the "Connecting To Site..." and "Start Downloading From Site..." info in the bottom left corner (which normally you'd barely see as it would be so quick).

The connection is absolutely fine (Outlook Express e-mails are flying down, as are downloads), it's just regular surfing that is painfully slow.

Could anyone advise what I might try before I consider delving into Restore Points or, at worst, re-installing XP.

As far as I'm aware, I haven't installed anything recently that would have affected anything.

I have already tried the following:
- Norton complete system check for viruses
- Downloaded all Norton updates (do this daily)
- Downloaded all Windows updates
- De-fragged
- Downloaded and run AdAware
- Set the cache to 1MB
- Deleted all Temporary Internet Files

Any suggestions on what to do before, inevitably, I end up re-installing XP would be much appreciated.

Incidentally, I apologise, but I'm refering to XP Home Edition.

Many thanks in hope!!

Even though you've used Adaware, it would be worth running through the other tools mentioned in faq608-4650.

Thanks, smah -

I've had a look there and am preparing to go through that list in the correct order. However, one thing I'm a little frightened of is the fact that if I go ahead as suggested, I'll have to turn off System Restore points which will delete all those I have already - which could potentially be my NEXT step before a complete re-install!

Which do you think would be more beneficial to solving the problem?? This FAQ, or System Restore points?? I've resigned myself to the fact that I may well have to re-install anyway, so I'm just after some educated advice!

Many thanks for your help,
Jonfurn

You can certainly go through those steps without turning off system restore if you're more comfortable. If your problem is cured temorarily but comes back after a reboot, than you'll need to go through the steps again with system restore off. If you go through all the steps and it doesn't help at all, turning off system restore probably wouldn't have helped.
