On Windows 2000,98 and 95 it is possible to open an rtf or xls file from the browser (internet explorer). In XP operating system the rtf or xls files do not open from within the browser but on a new application window.
Is there a way to open xls,rtf files from within the IE browser on XP?

Bravdo,

One way is to do the following:

1) Double-Click My Computer
2) Click Tools
3) Click Folder Options
4) Click the File Types Tab
5) Scroll down to the XLS file type
6) Click on it
7) Click the Advanced button
8) Check the box "Browse in Same Window"
This works for me on the reverse by unchecking it the .xls file opens Excel instead of viewing it in the IE window.

However, with .RTF files the "browse in same window" is greyed out in Office XP.
This is a mix between IE and Office 2000/XP.
Hope this helps
