Just today when I start IE6 with all the newest patches, it will display a page and as long as I click links I can surf the internet. As soon as I try to access or enter a term to search for on - IE freezes up and I see Not Responding in the title bar. It seems any time I try to do a search this happens. I have all the newest patches for XP and IE6. My Outlook works fine. I can still download files from Microsoft and they will install. The issue seems to be when I try to enter anything to search for on any site. when I bring up task manager, I also see two instances of IE6 showing not responding when I have only opened one and can only see one on the screen and taskbar. any suggestions - I have burned about three hours. I did go back to a restore from last week and everything works except IE. What in the world???

See if this FAQ will help: faq608-4650

Also, check c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS with notepad. You want only a single entry for localhost pointing to 127.0.0.1

I am trying what you suggest now. Turned off all startup items with msconfig - no luck. Logged on with another user and everything works.

Any idea what c-dilla.srv is as a service?????

Have run regscan and spybot with no luck.

C-dilla is a product by Macrovision to protect against the copying of software on CDs. Quicken's Tax Program became notorious last year for intalling it as protection.

Thanks - just found that same information.

Tried cwshredder and says computer is clean
Virus Scan from Norton - no viruses
Spybot - removed all spyware - no luck
RegClean - cleaned - still no luck

Disabled all startup with msconfig - no luck

I have found if I type fast I can get a couple of pages in before the system stops working. I noticed the hard drive also follows a same pattern right before IE6 stops responding. Set page file to 0 - no luck. re-enabled page file - no luck

This is insane

Rebuilding the profile now. 21GB could take a few hours to copy.

It is a conspiracy - I can go to msn.com and surf the entire site including searches. Show video and anything else. Leave msn and go anywhere else, and within a couple of pages - boom IE6 locks up and says not responding.

I hope the rebuild works. I will let you know. Thanks for all the suggestions. Anyone with any ideas, I am open to trying.

It seems to have worked. I had to import over my bookmarks, but it is working right now. I would like to know what went wrong with IE, but I guess there is no good way to troubleshoot that issue other than what we have tried.

Yeah - 21 gb - burning VHS to DVD was the killer. I went ahead and moved those files outside the profile.

Thanks for the help.
