Hi - Since a PC crash while re-installing Windows98 I've been getting problems (first windows protection error, fixed ; then IE caused invalid page fault in module unknown now 'gone away' ; and finally connects to ISP OK then hangs while trying to go to opening page, but doesn't give any messages) - the last thing I tried was to use IERADICATE to get rid of IE completely, then re-install W98 - I asked MS about this problem, but nothing they've suggested yet, has worked - my ISP says everything's OK from their point of view (Outlook Express 5 won't work either & I can't ping anything from DOS) - does anyone have any ideas please? - I've spent 4-5 hours each evening for 7 days now and got no further forward!

Assuming you reinstalled Windows from scratch, not over the previous install, then maybe Dial up Networking or tcp/ip have got messed up. Have you tried pinging loopback from dos. This should return the Netbios name of your computer, the ip address 127.0.0.1 and then successfully return all four pings. If it does, then tcp/ip is working. If it doesn't, and you didn't reinstall from scratch, then that may be your best bet. You can uninstall tcp/ip and reinstall, or DUN but my guess is it won't help in this regard. Have you checked to see if your modem or broadband connection is working properly, and has the latest drivers.

Just some initial thoughts, let us know what happens.
