Internet explore links freezing IE7

Have a user that when he creates a link on his desktop (either by draging the icon from an already open page, or manually creating a link) and clicks on it, it freezes IE7. The top of the browser shows up on the screen but that is it. End up having to use task manager to kill it. If I just open up IE and type in the same address as the link, it works great. I have tried on another computer, and it works just fine. I have tried to reset IE back to default but no luck.

Does it make any difference if IE is already open or not? What are the tabs settings on that machine?

Is it always the same URL that causes the issue, or will any URL do?

Thanks for the quick responces. I'm not sure as to the tab settings. And its any url. User is not in the office today so I will have to wait till next monday.
