internet connection

I have desperately been trying to get my internet connection to work using a cable modem. Here is what I have done. What am I missing?

1. replaced cable modem
2. uninstalled/reinstalled nic
3. tried new nic
4. uninstalled/reinstalled tcp/ip
5. check to see that dhcp client has started
6. ping loopback- worked fine for both cards
7. replace patch cable to modem
8. tried different slot on board
9. made new network connection- status says it is fine
10. ipconfig /release /renew

When I try to connect to IE- doesn't connect- same for Outlook.

Also, ipconfig /all , of course shows nothing unusual.

What am I missing????

Hello,

Have you change your network card that is connect to your cable modem ?
If yes or if the card is not that supplied by your cable provider, I think that is the problem. Indeed the cable provider identify you not with a login and a password btu with the mac address of your network card.
Tell them what is the new mac address. You can find this address written on the network card.

Also check your DNS/WINS settings. You should be pulling WINS info from DHCP server. You DNS gateway should be your ISP's server somewhere.

Can you ping

http://www.google.com?

Can you ping 216.239.51.101? pbxman

More importantly, can you ping your gatway or your primary DNS server. If yes, it is a IE config problem, if no, it is a ISP problem or a connection config problem.
