internet connection without vpn connection

I have dell D800 laptop with windows xp s2. earlier I was able to access internet with or without vpn connection but now I cannot able to access internet without vpn connection

actually i don't know much about the setup of internet and vpn. My company has given the laptop with internet and vpn installed. And I was accessing internet with or without vpn connection through last 9 months. but from today when I am trying to access the net I am unable to do it but when I connect the vpn I am able to access the net. onemore thing I see some virus in my pc is it because of virus?
