Hello Folks,

My company has many computers at various sites on a Novell network. All computers get their IP address from DHCP. I set up a seperate LAN with only 3 computers with Static IP addresses. One of the computers is looked to as a server from the other 2. The problem is, when I set a Static address on the server machine that was getting DHCP addressing , the ability for that machine to connect to the internet has ceased. What can be done to keep the Static IP and connect to the internet?
Do I need a proper Gateway address or a preferred DNS address?
Thanks in advance for any knowledge you can help with.

Yes, you do need to specify the gateway. It should be a router, but could be a firewall or other server. I always enter static DNS entries when I use a static address.

You mention a seperate LAN - if it's on a different subnet, you'll need to configure your router with the proper addressing and routes.
