I am running XP Home on a desktop computer with a high speed internet connection via cable modem. I'm noticing that while listening to streaming audio such as internet radio, my connection times out at 55 minutes. Reconnection is easy enough. But, the interruption is problematic because I sometimes like to save the broadcast to listen to it later. I've looked for a setting that would mediate this but cannot find any. Am I to assume this problem is stemming from the ISP who is terminating my connection because there is 'no activity'?

Try a different stream, have someone try that stream. I doubt it's your ISP kicking you off as your using an "always on" cable modem. I would place the issue in the hands of the owner of the stream, they may have it set so that you get disconnected after 55 min.
does not disconnect you. Try them for a bit and see what happens.

skotman,
Your suggestion is a real possibility; that is that the source of the stream is at fault. But, unfortunately if that is the case, I'm out of luck because the stream is from a syndicated show broadcast locally. I've searched other affiliates who carry the show and none of the others provide streaming without a lot of requiremtents to listen over the net. I guess I can contact the local affiliate and enquire. But, my guess is that they won't change their policy since they likely don't want individuals recording their show for use at a later time. In my case, the broadcast occurs at a very inconvenient time. So, unless I can save the broadcast, I'll not be able to listen. Thanks for your response.

I checked out the website you suggested. Too bad they don't carry my program.
