As far as I know, the problem began today (I had the previous day off). I know a temp Mech.Engineer was on the workstation(which was moved to a makeshift office temporarily) for about a week and he prob messed around.
A WIN2000PRO Workstation has 'lost' its connection to the ISP(DSL) through our LAN. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling TCP/IP and switching IPs. I have checked the DNS entries and they are correct.
Another weird thing, on the LAN it can see several workstations in its Workgroup but when you try to gain access it gives an error of
"//comp_name is not accessible
The network path was not found."
The only connection it can make is one to the WIN2000SERVER(Workgroup right now) in its workgroup which it makes after the user logs in.
I am pretty sure that both problems stem were caused by one error.
There is a fire lit under me by the Head Engineer to get it fixed. Please respond with any comment/help ... it is greatly appreciated.

Can you ping an internet address or any other PC in the workgroup? Does this user have administrator rights locally on the PC?

Maybe it was a mistype, but //computer_name is an invalid path.
\\computer_name\sharename is the correct format for UNC pathnames.

Are you running a DNS server and/or WINS? Has the PC been rebooted, and established a DHCP address? Is it static? Do you have a scope configured with reservations? Do you have a workgroup setup within a domain?

Try to map a drive using \\servername\sharename syntax, and try pinging your gateway to the internet.

Post back with some further information when you can.

pbxman,
When I ping the gateway(DSL modem) and other computers in the workgroup it timesout. The only exception is I can ping the WIN2000Server that is also in the same workgroup. The user did have admin rights.

I am not running a DNS(yet)/WINS server. DHCP is not running as a service on the Server. It is static and it isn't setup as a workgroup in a domain. I am new to WIN2000pro and Server and do not have any reference materials yet. I do not know where to find where the scope is configured.

I'll map a drive and see what happens when i ping the gateway.

Shovel204,
The LAN settings in IE under [ Tools->Internet Options->Connections->LAN settings ] is setup to Automatically Detect Settings. There were no changes made there.
Thank you for the quick response,
