Hi, I'm getting an old laptop in tomorrow (used to be a work PC) and I'm going to wipe it and install XP Pro SP2 on it.

My Desktop has a Cable Internet Connection, and I was wondering what kind of setup and steps I need to take to share the Desktop's Internet Connection with the Laptop?

I've never done this before, but here's basically what I have to work with:

- PC with Cable Internet connected via USB
- PC has Ethernet Card and Built-in Ethernet aswell
- Laptop will have 1 Ethernet Card
- PC = Windows XP Pro SP2
- Laptop = Windows 2000 Pro (But will hopefully have XP Pro on it)
- One Ethernet Cable

I won't be able to carry this out until tomorrow evening, but can anyone give me a few instructions or a link to a guide please? Thanks a lot.

OK, hit a bit of a snag...

It turns out that the Laptop has no RJ45 Ethernet Port - just a standard Phone Line Socket (the smaller ones) and a PC Card with an Ethernet Socket type I've never seen before...and only ONE USB Port.

I can use USB to get Internet on the Laptop, but then I have no way to share it without the RJ45 Jack...is there any way I can do this?

What you can use is a Wireless router like the one Joamon pointed out.

You won't need to share anything as the router will provide it to both systems.
