Have win98 installed on 3 PC's but having problems figuring it out. Have used Rideway in the past but doesn't support IRC. Wingate is even more daunting. Please anyone?
I'm also currently helping someone else set up a DCC through DUN to achieve this result; set one PC up as the DCC host for the other two (after installing DUN 1.3 & it's "DUN Server" connect the one to the internet & have it's modem shared; connect all of the rest to this one and, voila, maybe some of your packets will actually get through (actually; serial connections ARE usually in the 400-600Kbps range, so the slow-down is minimal; each person basically gets an average 1/3 of the main connection speed.
-Robherc
robherc@netzero.net

*nix installation & program collector/reseller. How about Win ME?
I've 3 computers at home:
1. PIII 700 win ME (have 2 Lan cards)
2. P 200 win98 (not SE)
3. P 166 notebook NT server 4.0 with SQL Server 7.0
from the above messages, I must upgrade the win98 to at least win98 SE, how about my NT server? and is the configuration of winME the same as win98SE? thanks! Please visit my WebCam!!
so long as you have a working network between those three computers you can have Windows ME do all the sharing of internet access. Follow the Internet Connection Sharing wizard in Windows ME and make sure on your other "client" computers you specify their default gateway as the IP address of your Windows ME computer, then their DNS address needs to be that of your ISP's DNS address(one way to find this out is to run "winipcfg" by going to start>run>"winipcfg", then click the "more info" tab)
Thanks.
I'm going to give it a try this weekend. I understand that I have to upgrade my Win98 to Win98SE, but how about my NT 4.0? Is it capable to be the client of ICS? Please visit my WebCam!!
You shouldn't have to upgrade your Windows 98 First Edition computer. I have a Windows 98 FE on my network that is already an ICS client, and as far as know your NT 4.0 computer should work as a client also.
Hi, at last I've given it a try, but I failed. I have the WinME as the host computer. I installed ICS on it with the ICS wizard and created the setup disk. I connected one network card to the broadbent and the other one to my Win98FE. I double clicked setup of the setup disk from the Win98FE and followed the wizard to reboot the computer. But then I still can't see my network neighbours, why? which step is wrong? One more point is that originallly I used the Win98FE to connect to broadbent, does it matter? do I have to remove the connection programme before installing ICS? Thanks! Please visit my WebCam!!
Hi I'd like to ask if I need any hubs in the case of only 2 computers including the host computer. Do I need to connect the 2 computers through a hub? thanks! Please visit my WebCam!!
