I am using ICS so I can dial out to the internet through my desktop. However, if I have ZoneAlarm running on my system, I can't connect to any websites. What I am wondering is if there is a way to "tunnel" through the firewall. Or if there is a better, no cost, solution to what I am trying to do.
BTW, I know I can use linux, I just haven't set up a box yet with it on yet...

I both systems are using Windows 2000.

Thanks in advance for any help. Mike Wills

with Zone Alarms you can setup the program to allow a program to access the internet. You probably already knew that, however you know. Good Luck!! Jeter@LasVegas.com

ICS seems to work on a different level than ZoneAlarm monitors for, but the firewalling part is still working. Even if I am using a dial-up, in this day and age, leaving a open computer is an open invitation for trouble.

Is there any other firewall product that might work for this? Mike Wills

I am using the free version of ZoneAlarm, and I have ICS running on my Win98 machine. My LAN consisting of a Win98 machine and a WinME machine and they both have no trouble accessing the internet. I have ZoneAlarm on both machines, after I set up the programs that can access the internet and the protection level, it works great!

They may be your problem have you looked at the Protection level you have assigned to the Internet and to the Network? I know if you set the protection level to high it doesn't allow you to do much at all. you may also have the internet lock on. BTW, I get usually around 2 or 3 hack attempts a night, but ZoneAlarm is doing a good job of keeping them out. I wish there was a patch or some other way the have file and print shares without NetBios. Good Luck!

I know that sometimes it matters when you start ZoneAlarm, particularly with a dial-up connection or some other type of connection software. Previously I have had to make a connection first and then start ZoneAlarm afterwards. It is not that way with my DSL connection because the etheernet card initializes before ZoneAlarm starts, on a reboot, and my connection is always on.

I had this same problem - just go into the Security settings of ZA and set the Internet level to Medium. Also make sure your LAN adapter is checked as "trusted" under the Advanced settings button.
