Internet Connection Control

I would like to add a control to my web page that shows the status of the machines internet connection. Something like a dot that changes to red if the connection is down and green when it is up. Does anyone know of such a control? I would prefer a good free one. :)

In addition do you know of any controls that will show the status of a TCP connection? I have a server that is on the same subnet and I would like to display the connection to that server. Possibly another red dot if the server is down for some reason, green when it is up.
