lost internet at office,we have 5 workstations that used to do internet fine, even when vpn is connected.now no internet UNLESS the VPN is connected.. the use default
gateway on remote computer has allways been UNCHECKED
any ideas???

workstations are XP pro in a workgroup

THANKS in advance...

Not enough information, it's very difficult to guess your network setup

network is a fractional T1 line with a linksys router firewall about six users on a workgroup system.everything was ok untill yesterday. all computers are win xp pro & maybe 2
windows ME boxes, no special settings on linksys other than setup for a static IP. tried another (NEW) router, got same problem.have to connect to home office thru a VPN and then the computers will access the internet (if logged on as Admin)

when on the internet you can disconnect the VPN connection and the computer will continue to surf internet untill you close the browser. then try internet again will not go online.

The setting on Vpn Conn (use remote gateway is UNCHECKED as is suppose to be..

Thanks Robert

Can you do ping/pathping to outside while no vpn?
try ipconfig /flushdns

YES i can ping outside w/no vpn

tried the ipconfig/flushdns but no help

did notice a new icon called ERROR GUARD 2.5.0 on one of the girls computer. i think that mat be something to do with
problem... is not listed in add/remove

anyone heard of error guard 2.5.0

Well the VPN is just IPsec over TCP/IP so my guess woudl be to make sure you do not have any browser scripts running, tools -> internet options -> connections tab -> LAN settings

Also, what is supplying your DHCP/DNS local servers? ISP?

being far from an expert,i know our (nuvox) isp router is in the bridged mode.our linksys router is doing dhcp and i guess our isp is doing the dns. no scripts are listed in LAN settings. ran adaware, spybot and adaware found 2 or 4 malware
about the ERROR GUARD.also tried to restore computer back a week but would not let me restore...

should i just wipe hard drive out and restore
whole machine??

Yes this has effected all 5 computers in this office.i really think it has something to do with the (ERROR GUARD) icon i found on one of the workstations.have read some other people having same prob. will run spybot, adaware ect and see what comes up. other people had a popup come up say's to update your firefox browser they did and this program scans the comp and finds many things to fix.ask you to purchase the fix.
some trojan i think. ??? can this PROBLEM MIGRATE THRU THE VPN TO THE HOME OFFICE SERVER???

THANKS robert

GOT IT,I thought i checked thr dns server Address guess i missed one TINY NUMBER. Everything OK

THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED

robert
