What would be the best way to give Internet access to users using Netware 4 or 5 (not sure) and IPX/SPX. Is there something corresponding to NAT or ICS in Novell (a black art for me), I think there will be the option of the existing ISDN line or installing a new ADSL line.

Well, if what you are asking has to provide Internet access to an IPX network, then you will need the IPX/IP Gateway. It's neat; but it doesn't work very well for programs most users want to use. I haven't used anyone elses IPX/IP gateway, but Novell wrote thiers to the Winsock 2.0 spec (at least the one written for BorderManger 3.5) So programs written to the Winsock 2.0 spec would work great; however, most programers use M$ code tools and M$ being M$ made some changes to thier implementation of Winsock 2.0, so programs NOT written to use the M$ rigged Winsock would not function correctly if at all when going through a Novell IPX/IP gateway.

You would buy BorderManager to get this, I would just do some IP routing and use the BM firewall. The IPX/IP gateway would just be a pain in the butt. BorderManager is nice, pretty decent firewall, getting easier to admin. It can do static and dynamic NAT; and since you are even considering ISDN I would assume you will have a slow connection speed (128 to 512) In this case, the BM proxy cache would help also. As all the workstations already have TCP/IP binding and DHCP (most I think are Win98) but no DHCP server could I install an ADSL router (eg. Cisco PIX 501 Firewall), which will provide DHCP and NAT, and run this at the same time as the Netware?
