Interesting that the RIAA is already petrified of it.

But what good is it when it's a limited universe of users?

For example, we develope open government applications and an I2 connection between us and other state agencies would be fantastic. It would be nice to be able to replicate servers in seconds instead of minutes to hours.

Perhaps it's fast because there are a limited number of users.

As I see it, the Internet2 is a testing-ground for methodologies and technologies that we will see on the so-called "commodity internet" one day.

Considering how bloated software has become (in all it's iterations) faster transfer speed is definitely better. That along with the advent of molecular transistors will cause another quantuum leap in technology. Who knows we may be close to actual functional A.I. in the next five to ten.

Of course once Internet2 is available to the general public Internet3 will be deployed.

beanbrain: Funny you should mention AI. I just got through having a discussion with a colleague as to why robots won't take over the entire manufacturing floor until they have AI capabilities.

We both agree on the ten year time span for the emergence of true AI.

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated!

DrJavaJoe: Well, considering they want to implement a virtual human brain in silicon, going the other way shouldn't be too far off.

Have you noticed the number of people walking around with the Bluetooth Earphones each attached to that wireless pc they call a cell phone. hmmmmm, the collective is beginning to form.
