Any one done any work on creating a catalog app for
Retailers using an international standard?

I have done this on a local basis and it is indespensible
for me. This could be the killer app to push foxpro into
the next generation.

Imagine foxpro as the required software for participating
in the world market.

Your comments please!

Just trying to create some discussion on extending the life
and commercial viability of foxpro.

post url if you would like to discuss further.

Hope I am not violating any of the rules of the Board.

Just trying to promote our enviorment.

Charlie,

I'm the first to applaud any attempt to extend the life of FoxPro, but I don't understand what you are suggesting.

What exactly to do you mean by "a catalog app for Retailers using an international standard?" And why should such an app be a "killer app"?

Mike

Mike I'm up late so forgive me.

I am a retailer who has built my own software for 30+
years. No one has ever catered to the needs of the retailer. There is the possibilty of creating a standard
for the information that a retailer needs to do business
on a daily basis. That information needs to be in a standard format that can easily be integrated into a
catalog format for searching, ordering, analyizing etc.

This is like Google for the retailer.

How many retailers do you suppose exist in the world?

What is the market for a app that requires foxpro to extend it?

I still make my living (solely) from FPD2.6 so I don't know if any of us over 35 need to worry about extending the life of VFP past Version 9 sp2.
Let's face it, one and one is two, regardless of how you add it up, abacus, fingers or a super computer.
I think it's got to a point where improvements in Systems like VFP and even underlying OS like Windows are largely cosmetic. Sure, updates to new versions often benefit the programmer, but to the end user? I don't think so. Seems to me that all they want is for one and one to keep adding up to two in as easy a fashion as possible.
But to your other suggestion, what exactly are you after? When you say you are a retailer, what kind? I deal with retailers and wholesalers on a day to day basis and I've never seen a Xmas wish list that included a global catalogue.

.

Charlie,

I'm still not sure what you're suggesting. Are you proposing to develop this app yourself? Are you trying to encourage others to do it? Or what?

You say, No one has ever catered to the needs of the retailer. What about the hundreds of PoS /Stock Control / Purchase Order Processing systems in the world?

With respect, I think you need to be able to explain your ideas a little more clearly if you want to carry them forward.

Mike
