International Exchange setup

Hi, can you all give me a bit of general advice to a bit of a general question. We're in the process of planning an international exchange network between UK, Germany and Italy. We're an ISP so we plan to use VPN to connect the 3 sites. As the 3 existing networks in the 3 countries are already well established, we don't plan on pulling everything into one domain or changing any of the local setups, so as long as we have the right trust relationships setup, will 3 Exchange 5.5 Enterprise servers happily communicate with each other it they're in 3 different domains?
