sometimes when i try to modify a record on a VFP database in a jsp that is located on the main Apache/Jserv server i get an internal server error. What is an internal server error? How is it caused? What can i do to go about fixing this problem?? Thank you very much for your help.

an internal server error means you made a mistake 
it produces this seemingly unhelpful mesg to hide your script bugs from a user browsing your site.
anything that goes wrong with you server can be found in your logs. you'll get a brief but accurate reason for why it went wrong.
where these are depend on your setup.
try
tail /var/log/apache/error.log
or
tail /usr/local/apache/logs/error.log
and there might be some other logs there to help you.
if your using windoze they'll be where apache is.
