I have a router that I unplugged from my cable modem and into the ethernet adapter and I got online, but I can't get online when the router was unplugged from the cable modem. Does that make sense?

No modem.
No internet connection.

All the router does is to help multiple users share the modem and its single IP.

Do you mean that your connection was from modem to router to ethernet? Then you tried modem to ethernet.....then it wouldn't work?

If that is the case try kick starting your internet by clicking Start, then Run.

Then enter: cmd
At the command prompt type: ipconfig release
Then you will have another prompt. Type: ipconfig renew

Close that out and try your internet explorer.

Good luck.
