Hi all. Is it possible to have an external Sharepoint site that links to a website that is on your internal network?

I have a request to add a link to a website that is on my internal network. That site has proprietary information, so opening that site up to the rest of the world is not desirable. My Sharepoint site sits in our DMZ, but has an internal 10. address assigned to it, with an external address NAT'd to it. Is what I want to do possible?

Thanks,

Marty

Hello,

It depends on your network configuration. If you allow your sharepoint site (server) to communicate with internal servers or not. You will have to allow access for your external users to the resource on your internal network (which might not be something you want to do).

I would be very careful about opening up things to internal network if your external sharepoint is accessible from an extranet/internet.

Regards,
Thomas

Thomas, thank you for the response.

Assuming I do allow the sharepoint server to communicate with the internal server, what do I have to do to be able to allow the sharepoint users permissions to the internal site?

How would the routing work? If the internal web server isn't otherwise available from the extranet/internet, how would I setup the link on the sharepoint site?

Thank again for your help,

Marty
