Hello,

I've just purchased an internal hard drive and an enclosure case to make a portable external hard drive to store my music. Its not working and I don't know enough about all this to know whats wrong. Can anyone help?

I have a Seagate Ultra ATA/100 Barracuda 7200.7 Model Number ST3120026A 120 Gig hard drive.

The enclosure is a no-name "Super Slim" external Storage System for 3.5 inch HDD. There's no brand name or anything like that. I bought it off eBay - you can see the auction here:
I followed the basic instructions to install the hard drive and since I have XP it was supposed to be Plug-and-Play. The first time I turned the power on, I got a pop-up saying there was a USB mass storage device attached. Then a message popped up saying there was an error in installation (I think that's what it said) and the device may not work correctly. Now I can't get anything to come up. I tried using the disk that was included with the enclosure but nothing happened.

I would really appreciate anything that anyone can offer on how to fix this and make it all work nicely for me.

Thanks.

By the way, the hard drive seems to work fine. I can hear it running and feel the vibration when it spins after I power it up.

On the new drive, or your whole system?
