We currently have a Legend 7.0 where all extensions are 7100-7199. We recently orderd PRI service and were unable to get the 7100 range, but did secure the 2100-2199 range. We plan to do a system renumber when we convert to the PRI (current system is on trunk lines). However, can I create internal forwarding so that anyone dialing the old 71XX number will reach the person with the new 21XX number?

Well, considering you are getting PRI, you can keep your existing 71XX numbers.

I would not do it that way, but you can if you want to.

The reason I would NOT do it that way is once everyone is telling all their buddys their D-I-D number, now the folks in the office have to dial their old number, even though they now know their D-I-D number. This could become confusing, don't you think?

Without doing any "INTERNAL FORWARDING, you can set up a PRI ROUTING table to translate 21XX to 71XX, and that would solve your "how can I create internal forwarding so that anyone dialing the old 71XX" problem.

Thus, EXTERNAL people dialing the D-I-D of 21XX would get the 71XX extension, and INTERNAL people dialing the 71XX would get the 71XX number.

Bottom line, you wouldn't have to change anyones number.

But, as I said before, is that really what you want to do?

What I'd like to do is convert everyone over to the new 21XX numbers, but leave 71XX forwarding in place to allow a transition period to the new numbers. After a specified period of time, the 71XX forwarding would be removed.

Renumber your 71XX extensions to 21XX

Renumber your 73XX adjuncts to the old 71XX extension numbers

Give each 73XX adjunct an authorizaton code, match the extension number for ease

Sit down at an extension and dial (over and over)

#80-71XX-#-*33-21XX

to forward each adjunct to its matching extension

Personal coverage button. Go to centralized programming, program extension, and add a button on each 21xx extension for it's 71xx extension. Assuming you don't have voice mail, you should be ok.
