internal driver error

I'm running a web app on tomcat 4.1.24 the app will connect fine to the as400 database for a couple of days and then all of the sudden I get an internal driver error, connection reset and no more queries go through to the as400. If I restart Tomcat everything works again for a couple more days. I have this same web app running on resin and it's been up for months with no probems. Any ideas? Should I try going to a different version on tomcat and if so which do you recomment? I don't want to go to v5.
