Internal DNS issues

We just completed a Windows 2K and Exchange 2K migration. We currently host 3 email domains and 2 of the websites. One of the websites/dns is hosted externally. The one domain whose website is hosted externally is not able to send mail to someone at the same domain by using the Global Address Book, however, they can send the email if they use the external @domain.com. Given the requirement to run internal DNS (we never had internal DNS with NT) with Active Directory my guess is that when they use the @domain.com is goes outside the network to resolve, which is ok since their DNS is hosted externally, however, since we don't run the DNS internally for this domain the internal (global address book) will not work.

Am I way off base here? Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks.

Add MX record for mail server in internal DNS.
