Hey all,

We just created an account for the general public to send in their thoughts on some upcoming initiatives we're going to implement at work. We created an auto-reply using one of the templates in Outlook 2003. That auto-reply works fine when tested internally, but there is no reply when tested externally. I had heard that Exchange 2000 & 2003 by default do NOT sent external replies. I checked my Exchange 2007 settings and discovered that 2007 DOES send external replies by default. Does anyone know how to get external replies working in this situation?

Thanks,

Joe B

If you turn on OOF with Outlook 2003 it only turns on the Internal OOF. If you need the external you have to set it using either OWA or Outlook 2007.

7139, we're not using the Out Of Office Assistant. We're setting up the response using an Auto-Reply rule. Any ideas for us on that?

Thanks,

Joe B

oops...didn't read properly! Sorry. Only thing I can think of is to check Organisation Config>Hub Transport>Remote Domains>Properties of Default and the second tab. Allow automatic replies should be ticked.

Agree - suspect the config of the connector which is suppressing the messages.

Hey all, sorry I didn't get back regarding this issue. Here's the resolution:

1) Start the Exchange Management Console
2) Go to Organization Configuration
3) Go to Hub Transport
4) Select the Remote Domains tab
5) Double-click the Default domain
6) Select the Format of original message sent as attachment to journal report tab
7) Under Message Format Options put a check mark in the Allow Automatic Replies check box

Now it works great. Thanks for all the responses!

Thanks,

Joe B

Faux Pas resolved.

Sorry 7139, I forgot where I received the instructions. You definitely helped me out on this one. If the General Manager's Administrative Assistant bakes me cookies again I'll think of you while I eat one.

Thanks,

Joe B

That's all we ask. You provide the mental stimulus / problem, we provide the solution, you provide the star, impressed parties provide the cookies.

Everyone wins and no-one gets hurt. Oh, and cookies are had.
