I have a Yamaha CRW2200EZ CD-RW drive which I have installed, and it works okay. At least for a little while. After my computer has been running for a little while, BOTH my CD-ROM and CD-RW are unable to read any CDs. I reboot, and the problem goes away. It doesn't appear right after burning a disk, it doesn't appear after reading a disk, it might appear after the computer has been sitting for a long time (it doesn't go into suspend) and the monitor shuts off.

The setup: I have a Promise ATA-66 card in a PCI slot, and there is a HD on each channel. The CD-ROM and the CD-RW are plugged into the IDE headers on the motherboard. There is also an internal Zip 250 on the same channel as the CD-RW, but I have observed that this problem occurs no matter where the Zip drive is placed. I have tried switching which channel (primary or secondary) the CD drives are on. I have tried swapping the Master/Slave position (when on the same channel as the Zip). Nothing seems to work. Running Win2K, SP2. Any ideas?

I wonder if there are any programs running in the background, check in your "close program" box, which you bring up by doing a control+alt+delete. Do that once only to btring up the close program dialog box, twice will re-start your machine. Check what's running when you first start your PC, and then check periodically after that to see what else has started, and in particular see what's running when you have this problem. Then report back here.B-) Tony
