Hello,

I have Avaya 6.3, and we are having some intermittent issues with 2 of our VOIP sites. The entire network has a double ring of SME fiber, 1 Leg (non-ring) of SME, and 3 Legs (non Ring) MM fiber. Site 1 of the MM had the same issues, but have been resolved. Site 2 and 3 (newest additions) of the MM fiber Legs are having VOIP to VOIP, VOIP to digital/analog (All internal), external Local/Long Distance calling issues. The Jitter, Buff, and Pkt Loss are fine, and there are no errors on the servers.

The callers (and only a select few within the buildings) have voice drop out every 5 - 10 seconds from whom they are calling. All other sides can hear the person fine with no disruptions.

The only issues I see are when logging into the IP of the actual POE switches (They are just the dummy-4500 series AVAYAs) and look at the Enterprise Device Manager. The "Absolute value" column (When I pull a "graph" from the fiber port that feeds the 2 effected locations) show "InDiscards" and, or "InErrors" on the interface tab. Not sure what that indicates, yet those are the only differences I can see.

Our 2 legs having the issues are connected via LC MM SFPs (Cisco)... and so is our 3rd leg of MM ... which no longer has this issue.

These sites have been up and running for 5 - 7 months with NO ISSUES. Kind of weird...

Looking for some feedback, and hopefully to learn more about my system :)

Thanks!

I would look at the switching and routing of your network. While is sounds like most of the WAN connections are fiber it is possible to have misconfiguration at the routers cause pain. Since it sounds like these are new sites my guess would be that traffic has ramped up over time and perhaps a QOS strategy is needed to prioritize traffic.
