We have two Servers on the network. PDC is NT 4.0 Server, plus a stand-alone server running Windows 2000 Server. Win 95/98/2000 Pro Clients connect to network using Netbuei Protocol and TCP/IP for EMAIL and Internet.

On average each workstation will fail to connect to a Mapped Shared folder on the 2000 Server approx once per week. The error message comes up saying it is unable to connect, with a box asking if you would like to reconnect at next logon. If the user goes to "my computer" or "windows explorer", the shared drive that they required has a red cross through it which I believe shows that the drive is disconnected. This is where it gets wierd!!!! If the user then double clicks on the disconnected drive, they get access to it, and the red cross disappears!!

This is unspecific to any workstations, users, time of day or day. I have tried users on different switches to no avail.

Please.... no rude comments about Netbuei!! If you have any ideas then I would appreciate it.

I have seen similar situations where a W2K client was a member of two separate domains. When he was on our network he was logging into a cached profile from another domain and was unable to connect consistently to shares on our network. It was really unpredicatble behavior. Also, be sure that the share has his/her proper login domain/user account in permissions.

Good Luck!

did you try net config server /autodisconnect: -1 to 65355

-1 is approximately 8000 years, and o and up is in minutes
