I am using a D-Link DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem (DCM-202) and a LINKSYS BEFSX41 10/100Mbps Cable/DSL Firewall Router with 4-Port Switch/VPN Endpoint.
This is used in a home network with various devices. For 3 of the router ports i have 3 PC's setup in the same room. The 4th port (DMZ'd) runs to an 8 port high speed switch with feeds 3 Playstation 2's, a PC, sometimes a laptop, and a DVR. The only thing that is active 100% of the time on the switch is the DVR, and it only sends/recieves every few hours or so.
Mostly gaming is what the PCs are used for (Everquest). EQ has a high tolerance for time outs and can recover if the router reboots smoothly and the character is in a non graphically intense area. The playstations on the otherhand, do not recover as well as the PC's when the signal is lost and will disconnect every time it happens. I can get kicked off, relog 2 minutes later, play for a minute, and get booted again.
Somone mentioned i should try upgrading the firmware, which i tried but for some reason when i went to upload the firmware file, the router settings page gives me the "page cannot be displayed" message. Am i doing something wrong when trying to upgrade the firmware?
Also, i have tried just about every possible combination of settings with the router and nothing seems to make a difference. Somone also suggested that i may have Network Address translation turned on in the router, and the modem has that feature turned on internally. This issue has been around for a couple months now and this is my last hope for help. If anyone has any ideas, please do not hesitate to let me know. It's killing me!!!!
