I have two W2K servers supporting about 50 users max. Server A is a terminal server which about 30 users access, server B is a dns / wins server and holds a DFS root for all user's file access.
The DFS root shares files held on both Server A and Server B.
Both Servers are DC's
This setup has worked fine for 18 months. Recently Server A destroyed a hard drive, requiring a re-install of the OS partition.
This went OK and the server was promoted back to a DC. Since then users have experienced intermittent read-only access to files on the DFS share which are stored on Server A. Files stored on Server B are OK.
I've tried moving all files to Server B and they share fine, but increase the server's work. I've wiped and re-formatted the file partition on Server A but no change. I've re-created the DFS root on Server B - no change. Permissions are identical on all files and the problem also affects administrators.
If I share Server A's files through a regular network share everything's fine so why the intermittent problem when they're shared through a DFS root?
Hope someone can help.
