Hello.. Help! We have a company wide SQL server database application that we have been using for years. It's never required any maintenance. All of a sudden, the users are unable to connect the first time of the day; they get the login box and may or may not be able to get in. Sometimes they have to try 5 times. Once they get in for the first time during the day it is usually fine. There are other databases on the same SQL Server with no issues; therefore I don't suspect a connectivity issue to the server itself. I touch the SQL Server only when I need to.. very infrequently - so basically am a newbie. Therefore, please be explicit with any instructions.. :) Oh yeah, version is SQL Enterprise Manager 8.0. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What error message do they get when they can't login? Is the problem only at a specific time of day. for instance if the first login of the day is inthe afternoonn rather than when they first come in inthe morning does it happen?

What has changed recently onthe server? Is there a scheduled job that runs about then? Not just a SQl server job but is there some sort of server maintenance that is suddenly happening?

Also you might want to move this to the SQl Server Setup and Maintenance forum, you are likely to get a better answer there.

Hey SQL Sister... Thanks for replying.. They are not getting any error messages.... they are just getting the Login screen and a drop down of all the available SQL servers that they can connect to. It is using a trusted connection.
It happens mostly in the a.m. but has known to happen later in the day. Once they get in, they are usually good. I'm in charge of the servers and there is nothing new scheduled; nor has anything changed.

Thanks for the info re moving this post... not sure how to move it.. can I just create a new one there?

YOu can use the redflag link at the bottom to ask the site admin to move it or create another one there.
