Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this question.
I have a group of images which load intermittently on a web page on a shared host. Sometimes some of them load, sometimes all of them load and sometimes none.
I have mirrored the same images on another server and kept the page in it's original location. When loaded from the alternative server, the images are served reliably every time.
I suspect there is a problem / incorrect setup issue with the server but the host say everything is ok - they have said this before when there have been other issues.
I know it is a bit of a long shot but what, if anything, can be done to track down this mystery?

If your server hosts are not being helpful, I would tell them straight out that you're going to move your business elsewhere if they don't help you track down the problem. If you're paying for a service then they should be doing their best to fix any issues you have, not just telling you it must be on your end.

It really does sound like a firewall or limited bandwidth problem, the server is maybe overtaxed or else is blocking certain images (for whatever reason).

Without access to the server it'll be very difficult to work this out.

Thanks Ben
Unfortunately I have a history of problems with this particular host and as it is a client's hosting package, it is out of my hands. This problem has only come to light since I added some Perl scripts and MySQL functionality. It has been a catalogue of failures on their part and I have been urging the client to move but he is not very keen.
As it is intermittent, it may be impossible to track it down.

Are your images produced as a result of a DB query?

Many shared hosts limit DB queries to a fixed amount or they may suffer from random missed connections because of the current load. This is a common issue I have seen from the many shared hosting brands of Endurance International Group.

Unless you have plain HTML, stay away from all EIG companies and get your clients away from them.

The images I am loading are selected via a readdir in Perl and then the appropriate number of images are displayed down each side of the page.
It is working OK at the moment so I can only assume that the ISP have had a problem and fixed it.
