Hello. Our users are reporting an intermittant crash of the Banner application that they run via Metaframe. They get a black screen and then the window disappears. The crashes occur 2 or 3 times/day for heavy users, but days can go by without a problem. The clients are Win95 using the ICA plugin (4.21.779) via Netscape. It's a published app via a farm -- no one receives a remote desktop. They do screen prints using a freeware app called "PrintNow" to avoid the problem of incompatible printer drivers. No other apps run on the server(s).

We have 4 servers running MF1.8 SP2/NT4 SP6, but we had the same problem under MF1.8 SP1/NT 4 SP 5. I configured one server to "disconnect" broken or timed-out connections but when a crash occurs, the session still disappears. It's still possible the problem is elsewhere (Oracle Forms, network, database, client software, PrintNow, pilot error) but I haven't been able to track it down. Any suggestions would be welcome. We also run Oracle Forms on the servers. One thing that we were suggested was that to reboot the servers every morning. We have set up an automatic job with the "at" command to reboot the servers at 3:00 in the morning. To reboot we use a program called SHUTGUI. Try rebooting on a regular basis and see if it help you. Thank you for your reply. I've already got one server set to reboot nightly and users logged in to that server are still experiencing disconnects. We haven't noticed any ongoing performance degradation on the servers that don't reboot; only the user session seems to be affected. I've also used perfmon to look for memory leaks but haven't found any.
